The Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) International Office (IO) held a pre-departure orientation for the 12 recipients of the Indonesian International Students Mobility (IISMA) awardees on July 6, 2023. The ceremony was officiated by Andi Masyitha Irwan, the head of the IO. Other members of the faculty included representatives from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) and the Faculty of Cultural Science (FIB). The event was officially opened by Prof. Muhammad Ruslin, the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs. Muhammad Ridwan, the IO secretary, moderated the discussion.

In his remark, Prof. Ruslin commended the awardees for their achievements and for representing UNHAS. The awardees must take the opportunity seriously. According to Prof. Ruslin, they should establish a network with fellow students and with professors who may be suitable supervisors in case they decide to continue their studies for a master’s or doctorate program. The awardees can start by reviewing the professors’ credentials and expertise.

The program included various sessions that were designed to help the awardees get ready for their trip to their host universities. Some of these include building awareness of IISMA as UNHAS ambassadors by Andi Masyitha Irwan, Ph.D., a lecture on how to write an academic article by Dr. Karmila Mokoginta, M.Hum., M.A, a workshop on navigating through the various steps of going abroad by Muhammad Ridwan, M.A., and a discussion about cultural shock by Jamaluddin Fitrah Alam, Ph.D. The alumni representatives were also involved in sharing their lessons learned.
