The New Head of Consular Office for Japan in Makassar, Mr. Ohashi Koichi, discussed strengthening
educational collaboration with the Rector of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin
Jompa M.Sc., well-known as Prof JJ, during a working visit at UNHAS. The activity took place on Tuesday,
March 28, 2023. Ohashi Koichi conveyed that developing bilateral relations between Japan and
Indonesia, especially the education sector, is the primary mission that will be performed in the future.
According to him, UNHAS is a strategic higher education institution that will encourage efforts to
strengthen long-standing relations between Japan and Indonesia. “I am happy to be able to visit
UNHAS, which happens to have a vast campus. This visit is certainly for friendship with UNHAS and
hopes to build a partnership with UNHAS, especially in the field of education,” Ohashi Koichi explained.
On the same occasion, the Rector of UNHAS warmly welcomed the visit. Prof. JJ presented general
descriptions about UNHAS in various ways. Regarding the potential for collaboration to be carried out,
he said UNHAS would openly build partnerships. Strengthening strategic partners is one thing UNHAS
continues to expand. “Strengthening networks with partners is vital for developing the usefulness and
quality of UNHAS as a higher education institution.
The challenges are getting bigger, and these require
the cooperation of various parties to solve, “explained Prof. JJ. Moreover, UNHAS and the Japanese
Consular discussed many steps to strengthen the education sector that could be collaborated.
