The Rector of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., (Prof. JJ) warmly
welcomed the German Ambassador to Indonesia, Her Excellency (HE) Ina Lepel. The visit took place
in the Rector’s Room on Thursday, January 26th 2023. The Vice-Rector for Partnership, Innovation,
Entrepreneurship, and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Adi Maulana, ST., M.Phil, and several representatives
of the German Embassy to Indonesia, also attended the meeting. On this occasion, the Rector of
UNHAS and the German Ambassador discussed many partnership opportunities, especially with
respect to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (Education, Research, and Community Service) and the
development of the UNHAS Hospital.

Prof. JJ expressed his excitement at having the German Embassy visit UNHAS. He gave an overview of
many of the UNHAS achievements. He said that UNHAS, as a university, is committed to sustainable
quality improvement in various fields. As the leading state university in Eastern Indonesia, and with
various achievements not only, Prof. JJ said that different strategic steps continue to be optimized,
one of which is by expanding partnerships with many parties to have an impact on improving the
quality of graduates and the benefits of UNHAS for the community.

“Internationalization will continue to be carried out as one of the responsibilities assigned while measuring the ability and existence of UNHAS on a global level. UNHAS continues partnerships with various parties. With this meeting, I hope that UNHAS can establish a partnership with the German Embassy, especially for developing our students”. Prof JJ

In reply, HE Ina Lepel expressed her appreciation for the achievements attained by UNHAS. She also
talked about bilateral relations between Indonesia and Germany, including in the field of education.
Ina Lepel said that one purpose of the visit was to observe first-hand the collaborative projects that
the UNHAS Hospital had carried out with Germany. She also explained that, since the Covid-19
pandemic, Germany has had a stronger focus on environmental-friendly projects.
