A total of 47 international students who participated in the International Culture Program entitled “The 6th International Culture Program” with the theme “Maritime Culture of South Sulawesi” planted mangrove seedlings in coastal areas in the Puntondo PPLH area, Puntondo Hamlet, Takalar Regency, Sunday (6/18) starting at 17.00 Wita.
Chairman of the Committee, Jamaluddin Fitrah Alam said that this activity was one of a series of ICP Unhas 2023 programs. Where, the purpose of planting mangroves in collaboration with PPLH Puntonda managers to be actively involved in protecting and protecting the sea and coast.
He added, on this occasion the foreign students who came from 22 countries felt happy to be able to gain new knowledge and knowledge related to mangrove types and how to plant mangroves properly and correctly.
“Mangrove ecosystems ecologically have very diverse functions such as being a habitat for marine and coastal biota, shoreline stabilizers to prevent erosion, and also play a role in preventing seawater intrusion into the land. So, in this year’s ICP agenda we invite participants to care about the coastal environment,” Jamaluddin explained.
This year, there were 47 participants from 22 countries such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Chile, Egypt, Honduras, India, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexica, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine and Vietnam. In general, the participants were happy to be directly involved in helping the community to plant mangrove seedlings. The whole series of activities went smoothly until 18.00 Wita.
