Faculty of Pharmacy, Hasanuddin University, represented by Prof. Dr. rer nat Marianti A. Manggau, Apt, Yulia Yusrini Djabir, M.Si, MBMSc, PhD, Apt, and Firzan Nainu, M.Biomed.Sc, PhD, Apt, have paid visits to several universities in the United Kingdom, including the University of Cambridge and King’s College London in Great Britain, and Queens University of Belfast in Northern Ireland. This visit was conducted on September 19-October 3, 2022.

The collaborative visit to the University of Cambridge resulted in an Academic and Research Agreement between the Faculty of Pharmacy and Weil Laboratory, signed by Prof. Dr rer nat Marianti A. Manggau, Apt. (Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy) and Dr. Tim Weil, Group Leader of Weil Laboratory). Following up on the collaboration, one of the UNHAS Faculty of Pharmacy lecturers, Firzan Nainu, Ph.D., Apt., is currently conducting visiting research for approximately a month at Weil Laboratory. This visiting research program was carried out from October 3 to October 26, 2022. During this visiting research activity, Firzan learned some of the latest wet lab methods, took part in academic discussions, and worked with Dr. Tim Weil to publish articles about the use of fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) in biomedical research.

 

In Belfast, the UNHAS delegation was received by Queen’s University Belfast, including Dr. Niamh Buckley (Director of Internationalization), Professor David Grieve (Dean of Internationalization, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences), Professor Colin P. McCoy (Head of School of Pharmacy), Professor Ryan F. Donnelly (Chair in Pharmaceutical Technology, School of Pharmacy), Dr. Eneko Larraneta (Senior Lecturer), and Dr. Alejandro Paredes (Lecturer). During the discussion, QUB offered to send an email draft of a Memorandum of Understanding as a follow-up to this meeting on how to work together.

 

In London, the UNHAS delegation explored cooperation with King’s College London. At the meeting, KCL was represented by Professor Khuloud Al-Jamal (Head of Medicines Development), Dr. Driton Vllasaliu (Senior Lecturer), and Prof. Stuart Jones (Director of the Centre for Pharmaceutical Medicine Research). During the discussion, KCL basically accepted the offer of cooperation, which was considered to provide mutual benefits to both institutions, especially in terms of academic and research.
