On 4th-11th February 2019, Unhas students took part in a workshop in Japan with theme “A Brainstorming workshop on how to build disaster resilient societies by replicating the course content of disaster leaders training program at Ehime University”. The students involved in this activity were Syahriani, Ade Guna Saputra, Dwi Uthari (urban management graduate students), and Muhammad Yasser (regional development planning graduate students). Accompanied by regional and city planning engineering lecturer Dr. Abdul Rachman Rasyid ST. MSi. Three of Japanese Lecturers, namely: Prof Netra P. Bhandary (Ehime University), Prof. Shuichi Hasegawa (Kagawa University) and Prof. Tofu Futagami (Ehime University). Besides participants from Indonesia, there were also participants from Nepal consisting of 8 people.
The participants visited several places including Ehime University, Matsuyama city fire station, Matsuyama river and roads office, Shigenobu River Bosai Station, Ozu City, Yoshida Town and Hiroshima city. The participants learnt about Global Scenario of natural disasters in recent decades, recent disasters in Japan,
Disaster Prevention Leaders Training Program (DPLTP) at Ehime Univerity, sample rope work, Earthquake intensity experience, emergency respiration and hearth message practice, smoke house escaping practice, fire-fighting practice, and Japan national disaster mitigation plan.
The output of this activity is to understand the types of natural disasters, how to deal with natural disasters as well as things to do when a disaster occurs, and some best practices that need to be implemented in Indonesia.
