Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) officially sent off its International Community Service Program (KKN) participants in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Malaysia on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The send-off ceremony, held at the Rectorate Lounge, was led by Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K) (Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs), who emphasized the importance of creating community-based programs and teamwork among the 28 student participants. He encouraged the students to apply their academic knowledge in providing practical solutions and highlighted the potential of Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) or Community-Based Education to generate policy briefs on immigrant issues.

The KKN program, coordinated by the Education Attaché at KBRI Malaysia, will run for 29 days starting January 11, 2025. During the program, students will teach Indonesian migrant workers’ children at several Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) or Indonesian Schools of Kuala Lumpur. Dr. Ari, Director of Education Transformation and Learning Innovation, and Dr. Syarifuddin Mabe Parenreng, Head of the Sub-Directorate of KKN, also emphasized the significance of expanding international KKN programs, citing the success of a similar initiative in Japan in 2024. The program offers students an opportunity to contribute to education while enhancing UNHAS’s international reputation. Aula Zuhda Asy-Syaefi, a student from the International Relations study program, expressed excitement and hope for the program, reflecting UNHAS’s commitment to community service and international collaboration.
