The Faculty of Economics and Business UNHAS welcomed a visit from representatives of the British Council

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), welcomed a visit from representatives of the British Council on Monday, 29 September 2025. The meeting aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the economic landscape of South Sulawesi and to hear directly from stakeholders most familiar with the region’s developments and challenges. The representatives from the British Council emphasized their interest in learning more about current economic priorities, ongoing local initiatives, and potential areas for cooperation that could foster sustainable growth. Meanwhile, FEB UNHAS highlighted several strategic issues, ranging from strengthening key sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and tourism, to addressing challenges related to regional disparities, the need for skilled human resources, and the importance of innovation and digital transformation in the economy.

From this exchange, a mutual understanding emerged on the importance of research collaboration as a concrete form of partnership between the British Council and FEB UNHAS. Such collaboration is expected to generate relevant studies to support policymaking and enrich perspectives on regional economic development. Both parties recognized the need for joint efforts to ensure that academic insights can translate into impactful contributions for addressing local and regional challenges.

In addition, FEB UNHAS extended an invitation to the British Council and its university partners to participate in the ICAME 2025 Conference, which will take place in November in Malaysia. This year’s conference theme is highly relevant to the agenda discussed, providing an excellent platform to broaden networks and exchange ideas at both regional and global levels. The conference is expected to open new opportunities for dialogue, foster stronger institutional partnerships, and support initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic growth in South Sulawesi and beyond.
