In an effort to strengthen and optimize the work performed as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities, the Academic Senate of Universitas Hasanuddin managed an official visit to several Industrial and Higher Education companies in Japan. The visit was carried out from Sunday (31/07) to Friday (5/08); the places visited was at Amino Up Co. Ltd in Hokkaido Sapporo, Kitasato University in Tokyo, Tsukuba University in Ibaraki, and the Indonesian Embassy in Japan
Head of the Unhas Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abd. Latief Toleng, M.Sc., explained that along with the function and authority to make policies in the form of regulations related to academic activities as well as to provide consideration and supervision, efforts to strengthen capacity building in accordance with the adaptation of the preparation of post-pandemic academic regulations are highly needed.
Based on the Government regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 53 of 2015 concerning the Statute, Unhas has been designated as a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH). Therefore, this activity is expected to produce and obtain comprehensive information on the implementation of PTN-BH activities,” Prof. Latif explained.
During the pandemic, Unhas is expected to be able to adapt to different learning settings, one of which is the learning model with breakthrough changes in academic regulations that are more adaptive as having been applied by universities in Japan.
The breakthroughs to improve academic services include launching a service package to help international students conduct studies and research independently.
“This reflects the university’s commitment to supporting international students to continue their studies while waiting for the opportunity to travel to Japan. As well recognized, Japan has an education system with excellent quality assurance and is managed centrally,” added Prof. Latif.
According to him, the legislative system in Japan regulates and supervises institutions that accept international students as well as ensures the quality provided by those institutions. The educational policy design system in research, innovation and business can be a reference for the Unhas academic senate.
In general, the visit had several objectives, one of which was to understand the characteristics of drafting the University’s academic service regulations. Besides, the visit aimed to escalate the potential for collaboration and to see how inventors develop innovations from natural materials in Japan.
