The public lecture on “Transregional Connective Memories Between Africa and Indonesia: The Case of Bandung and Makassar” by Dr. John Njenga Karugia (Institute of Asian and African Studies, Humboldt University Berlin). The activity, which took place in room 324 of the History and Culture Laboratory of FIB Unhas on November 7, 2022, was attended by lecturers of the Department of History and students across faculties within Unhas.

On this occasion, Dr. John explained the importance of further examining the commonly accepted historical narrative. Collective memory is a way for historians and researchers to better predict “the voice of those who are forgotten” in a story about the past. Memory connects people from various regions, such as the collective memory of the people about the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung and Sheikh Yusuf in Makassar.
