Hasanuddin University Welcomes Eight KNB Scholarship Recipients
Hasanuddin University (Unhas) welcomed the participants of the Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) Course who are recipients of the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang or KNB). The welcoming ceremony took place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, Unhas Language Service Center (UPT Layanan Bahasa).
For the 2024–2025 period, Unhas is hosting eight recipients of the KNB Scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). The participants come from various countries: one from Botswana, one from India, one from Madagascar, two from Yemen, and three from Pakistan. They are international students enrolled in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
In her remarks, the Head of the Unhas Language Service Center, Dr. Herawaty, stated that this is the third batch of KNB scholarship recipients at Unhas. In addition to learning the Indonesian language, participants will also explore Indonesian culture and local wisdom. She further mentioned that the target for this batch is to achieve at least the same outcomes as the second batch, where BIPA participants successfully wrote and published articles in nationally accredited (Sinta-indexed) journals.
The event was attended and officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Unhas, Prof. Muhammad Ruslin. In his speech, he emphasized that the role of the Unhas Language Service Center through the BIPA program contributes to enhancing the university’s global reputation and creates a positive international impact.
Also present at the event were the former Head of the Unhas Language Service Center, Dr. Andjarwati Sadik; Secretary of the Hasanuddin University International Office, Muhammad Ridwan, M.A.; BIPA internship participants from the Indonesian Language and Literature Department, State University of Makassar (UNM); BIPA KNB participants; and the staff and instructors of the Unhas Language Service Center.
