Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) hosted the “7th International Symposium of The Association of Japan-Indonesia Veterinary Education (AJIVE) 2023”. This annual scientific symposium is organized by The Association of Japan-Indonesia Veterinary Education (AJIVE) which discusses global veterinary issues, particularly in Indonesia and Japan. This year’s AJIVE International Symposium theme is “Strengthening International Collaboration between Indonesia and Japan in Veterinary Education and Research”, held on 11 February 2023 at the UNHAS Hotel and Convention and online via Zoom meeting.

The series of conference activities consisted of keynote sessions, oral presentations and posters. There were 3 specific topics discussed in sessions, including Animal Disease and Veterinary Public Health; Veterinary Clinic, Reproduction and Pathology; Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology.

In the symposium opened by the Rector of UNHAS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc, was also
present as a member of AJIVE (Japan: Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Medicine, Yamaguchi
University and Joint Department of Veterinary Science, Tottori University) and ten delegates from
Veterinary Faculties and Study Programs in Indonesia. AJIVE 2023 presented two keynote speakers
namely: Assoc Prof. Takashi Shimizu (Yamaguchi University) with the title “Elucidation of the Virulence Acquisition Mechanism of Francisella tularensis” and Assoc. Prof. Channarong Rodkhum (Chulalongkorn University) with the title “Fish Vaccination”.

The AJIVE’s member meeting which was also held on the same day produced several commitments
including the Implementation of an MoU between Yamaguchi University and Tottori University and
universities in Indonesia which did not yet have cooperation with universities in Japan; Visiting lecturers and student staff to Japan for short course activities or internships, especially at Yamaguchi University and Tottori University with the recommendation of the Association of Indonesian Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (AFKHI); Guest lectures from AJIVE member lecturers in Japan to AJIVE member universities in Indonesia, and; Research collaboration between AJIVE member universities and AFKHI members.

This event, which was attended by 80 participants both offline and online, is expected to bring great
collaboration and improve the quality of veterinary research and education to face global demands and dynamics. Further, it is hoped that there will be an expansion of the collaboration program for veterinary education standards in Asia based on the international education system, and to improve the quality of veterinary research based on the international veterinary education system.
