Global Spirit Meets National Pride at Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day

To commemorate the vibrant moment of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, the International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) once again involved its international students in the flag-hoisting ceremony. The event took place on Sunday, 17 August 2025, at the Student Activity Centre Basketball Arena, where participants gathered to honour the nation’s historic milestone.

International students from Syria, Pakistan, Madagascar, Nigeria, and India joined the celebration, proudly wearing their traditional attire. Their presence brought a colourful and unique atmosphere to the ceremony, standing out among other participants while symbolising diversity and inclusivity at UNHAS.

Beyond participation, the involvement of international students served as a form of soft diplomacy, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange. Through this meaningful experience, they gained firsthand insight into how Indonesians celebrate their Independence Day, strengthening the bond between the local and international academic community.
