From Article Writing to Human Rights Law: Insightful Guest Lectures by Dr. Nurul Hidayat at Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University

On October 19 and 21, 2024, the Faculty of Law (FH), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) once again hosted Dr. Nurul Hidayat Binti AB Rahman, a senior academic from the Faculty of Law at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), for a guest lecture series. This was Dr. Nurul Hidayat’s second visit to FH Unhas, following her previous lecture on October 7 and 8.

In two different sessions, Dr. Nurul Hidayat delivered lectures on scientific article writing, legal research, and human rights (HR). On Saturday (October 19), she presented the topic “ABC in Article Writing: Drafting to Publishing Success,” moderated by Ahmad Fachri Faqi, S.H., LL.M, a lecturer in the Department of Civil Law at FH Unhas.

This presentation was the opening session of the “Intensive Training on Writing Articles in Reputable Journals,” a regular program organized by FH Unhas. The program specifically targets postgraduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels and is now in its fifth batch. In front of around 40 postgraduate students, Dr. Nurul Hidayat shared tips on article writing, covering topics such as identifying research problems, utilizing theoretical frameworks, and selecting the appropriate journals for submission.

On Monday (October 21), Dr. Nurul Hidayat delivered a lecture titled “Law on Human Rights” during a morning session that ran from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. The lecture was intended for students in the State Administrative Law Program at FH Unhas and was attended by around 10 students enrolled in the course. In her presentation, Dr. Nurul Hidayat comprehensively discussed human rights law, covering not only the basic concepts and theories but also the enforcement mechanisms at both international and regional levels. Additionally, she delved into the challenges of balancing human rights with other competing interests.

In the following session, held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Room HK.01 at FH Unhas, Dr. Nurul Hidayat conducted a lecture on “Legal Research Methodology.” This guest lecture was organized by the Master’s Program in Legal Studies and was attended by approximately 30 participants. Dr. Nurul Hidayat outlined the general types of research, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. She also explained data collection techniques, such as interviews, focus group discussions, observation, and literature review. Dr. Nurul Hidayat emphasized that a rigorous research methodology is essential to ensure that legal research is conducted with strict standards, producing valid and reliable findings that contribute to the advancement of legal knowledge and practice.

This lecture series was fully supported by the Dean of FH Unhas, Prof. Dr. Hamzah Halim, S.H., M.H., M.A.P., Vice Dean 1 for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Maskun, S.H., LL.M, and the Head of the Undergraduate Law Study Program, Dr. Muhammad Ilham Arisaputra, S.H., M.Kn. In addition to benefiting students by deepening their knowledge of legal research and human rights law and contributing to the achievement of performance indicators, this guest lecture series is expected to strengthen collaboration between FH Unhas and the Faculty of Law at UKM.
