The Faculty of Nursing (FKep), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) welcomed inbound students and lecturers from Niigata University of Health and Welfare, Japan, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. The groups were staying till Sunday, March 3, 2024. The Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Unhas, Prof. drg. Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM (K), Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FKep, Syahrul Said, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D and Head of UNHAS International Office, Andi Masyitha Irwan S.Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D also attended this occasion to warmly welcome them.
On this inbound activity, 8 students and 2 lecturers participated in a comparative study in the theory and practice. Beside learning in class, the inbound students also did groupwork with 10 UNHAS students. They discussed community health problems in Japan and Indonesia and then did some presentations. Based on the discussion, Japan and Indonesia face similar challenges in overcoming health problems, such as hypertension and obesity. The possible solutions for that issue are doing regular exercise and limiting the salt consumption. For the practical aspect, they visited a number of health facilities. The visits were to the Bontokassi Public Health Center in Takalar, UNHAS Hospital, and the Griya Afiat Wound Care Clinic Makassar.
In addition, along with the inbound activities, the FKep UNHAS held a General Lecture in collaboration with Niigata University of Health and Welfare at the IPTEKS Building on Friday, March 1, 2024. This guest lecture was attended by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Syahrul Said, S.Kep, Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D, and Nursing Science as well as Japanese Literature students.
This lecture was presented by the first speaker, Takanori Hayakawa, R.N., M.Sc with the topic “Emotional Experience of Fathers With Recovering Alcohol Use Disorder Toward Their Children ”. The second speaker, Fusayo Kobayashi, R.N., PHN, Ph.D with two topics namely “Prevention of Lifestyle-related Diseases in Phonpei State, Federated States of Micronesia” and “Public Health Nursing Activity Theory, 2nd year Elderly Health Activities’ ‘.
On this occasion, Hayakawa-sensei presented his research with the same title. The research successfully revealed changes in the emotional experiences of fathers with recovering alcohol use disorder towards their children. Meanwhile, Kobayashi-sensei shared tips on preventing obesity by reducing calorie intake and how elderly health policies are implemented in Japan.
Guided by UNHAS lecturer, Framita Rahman, S.Kep., Ns., M.Sc, the guest lecture was successfully filled with the enthusiasm of the participants in the discussion session. The activity ended with the handover of souvenirs to inbound students and a group photo session.
