Confucius Institute of UNHAS Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival with a Blend of Culture and Harmony

The Confucius Institute of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) successfully held a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration on 2 October 2025, at the Mattulada Auditorium, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB). The event presented a vibrant mix of cultural performances and interactive activities, offering an engaging experience for guests, lecturers, and students.

The celebration was attended by Prof. Idrus Paturusi, former Rector of UNHAS and founding Rector of the Confucius Institute; Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil (Vice Rector for Partnerships, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business) Prof. Dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D., Sp.MK(K) (Head of Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM)) ; Prof. Dr. Andi Muhammad Akhmar, M.Hum, (Dean of FIB); Dr. Andi Masyitha Irwan (Head of International Office) along with faculty leaders, partner representatives, members of the local Chinese community (PSMTI), and more than 200 students.

In her welcoming remarks, Prof. Wu Xiaoling, Director of the Confucius Institute, expressed gratitude to UNHAS for its continued support and emphasized the Institute’s role as a bridge for cultural and academic exchange. Prof. Akhmar reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to supporting the Institute’s initiatives, while Prof. Adi encouraged students to seize opportunities to learn Mandarin and embrace cross-cultural understanding.

The event featured captivating performances including the graceful dance “Sending to the Bright Moon”, a Hanfu show “Splendid China”, a medley of Mandarin songs, and Tai Chi demonstrations. Traditional games such as “The Peach Blossom Blooms” and “Newspaper Step” invited lively participation, creating a joyful and interactive atmosphere. The celebration concluded with a group dance, symbolizing harmony and friendship between cultures.

Through this festival, Indonesian students gained valuable insights into traditional Chinese culture, strengthening mutual understanding and showcasing the cultural richness fostered by the Confucius Institute at UNHAS.
