Bridging Cultures Through Language: UNHAS International Office and STUVO Organize Bahasa Class for International Students

The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), in collaboration with the Student Volunteers International Office (STUVO) Batch 4, recently organized a Bahasa Class on 31 October 2025. A dynamic and engaging session aimed at introducing international students to the fundamentals of the Indonesian language.

This week’s session was coordinated by Rifkhy Arishall, Anis Abdullah, and Zulfiqri Saputra Samsul as Persons in Charge (PIC), along with Nayla Wijayanti, Muammar Khadafi, and Andi Regina as part of the STUVO.

The program serves as a bridge for international students to adapt more easily to daily life in Indonesia while deepening their understanding of local culture and social values. Through a series of interactive lessons, participants are guided in mastering basic expressions, greetings, and cultural nuances that reflect Indonesia’s warmth and diversity.

Beyond being a language-learning activity, the Bahasa Class also serves as a valuable training platform for the Student Volunteers. Held once a week at the Student Dormitory (RAMSIS) Hall of UNHAS, each session combines structured language instruction with creative learning methods. Volunteers integrate fun activities and interactive games during practice sessions, making the learning process lively, enjoyable, and highly engaging for participants. By taking active roles as facilitators and instructors, volunteers enhance their communication, leadership, and intercultural skills.

Throughout the session, the classroom was filled with energy and laughter as students practiced speaking Indonesian. The cheerful atmosphere turned the classroom into a space of genuine cultural exchange and friendship. Participants expressed their excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to learn the language in such a friendly and supportive environment.

According to the IO, this initiative is part of UNHAS’s broader mission to promote inclusivity and strengthen international engagement on campus. The program also highlights the collaborative spirit between local and international students, a reflection of the university’s dedication to nurturing a welcoming and globally connected academic environment.

Through programs like this, the IO continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating an inclusive and globally minded academic atmosphere which is one that values language, culture, and collaboration.
