Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Masafumi Ishii, visited Unhas for the first time. The first time visit was in the context of official inauguration and launching of Japan Corner Unhas, which took place at 14.30 WITA at the Central Library of Universitas Hasanuddin, Tamalanrea Campus Makassar, Tuesday (30/07).
This event was attended by Prof. Dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph. D (Vice-rector for Innovation, Research, and Partnership), Prof. Dr. Ir. H. M. Nurdin Abdullah, M. Agr (Governor of South Sulawesi Province), and also Ms. Liestiaty F. Nurdin. The management of the Alumni Association from Japan (Persatuan Alumni dari Jepang or PERSADA) of South Sulawesi, as well as Unhas academic community, were also present at this inauguration.
Japan Corner Unhas has been operating since 2017. Various activities have been carried out by this unit, including various seminars and workshops.
Meta Sekar Puji Astuti, Ph.D., as the coordinator of Unhas Japan Corner explained that the idea to establish this unit was based on some consideration, including the interest of Unhas students to know more about Japan.
“In Unhas there are already several corners of foreign countries, such as the Mandarin Center, Korean Corner, American Corner, and others. As it happened that there was a Japanese Literature Study Program at Unhas. So it is not excessive if we establish Japan Corner as a source of information and a place of learning for students and the general public,” said Meta.
Vice-Rector for Innovation, Research, and Partnership, Prof. Dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi. Ph.D. described that as an institution, Unhas strongly supported the Japan Corner at Unhas. According to him, this is a form of good cooperation between Japan and Indonesia, especially Unhas, which has been going on for a long time.
“Representing the leaders of the University, I thank you for the presence of the Ambassador. We hope that the presence of Japan Corner can further strengthen the diplomatic relations between the two countries that have been very well established so far. We are committed to participate in developing Japan Corner with activities that provide wider benefits, both research, seminars, workshops, and others,” said Prof. Nasrum.
Meanwhile, before H.E. Masafumi Ishii officially opened the Japan Corner Unhas, he expressed optimism and enthusiasm for the presence of this corner. “I hope that Unhas Japan Corner can be used by Unhas students as a forum to find out more about Japan. This can be a bridge of cooperation between Unhas and Japan,” kata Dubes Masafumi.
The launching of Japan Corner was marked by the signing and cutting of the ribbon done by the Japanese Ambassador together with his wife accompanied by the Governor of South Sulawesi and his wife, as well as the Vice-Rector for Innovation, Research, and Partnership. The Japan Corner launching event ended at 3:00 p.m.
