Three Lecturers From FIKP UNHAS Present at The Sustain International Conference 2025 at Kyoto University, Japan
The 9th International Conference on Sustainable Future for Human Security (SUSTAIN 2025) was held on 18 November 2025 at Inamori Hall, Kyoto University, Japan, through a collaboration between Kyoto University and the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) Kyoto. The conference brought together researchers, academics, and practitioners from various countries to discuss innovations and solutions related to sustainability and human security issues. The event featured an opening session, plenary presentations, parallel sessions, and networking opportunities for participants.

Three lecturers from the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FIKP), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), participated as presenters, namely Prof. Shinta Werorilangi with a presentation entitled From Rivers to Estuaries: Plastic Waste Transport and Dispersion Mechanisms, Andi Alya Yusriyyah, M.Sc., with Bibliometric Analysis on the Potential of Marine Bacteria for Sustainable Plastic Biodegradation from 2010 to 2024, and Zabhika Dinda Istnaeni, M.Sc., with Integrating Remote Sensing and Fishery Data to Characterize Grouper Fishing Grounds in Spermonde Island, Indonesia.
In addition to the presenters, Dr. Aidah A. Ala Husain from FIKP UNHAS also attended the conference as a participant and actively took part in the scientific discussions throughout the event.
The conference opened with remarks from Prof. Fumiharu Mieno and Dr. Hatma Suryatmojo as the organizing committee chairs and continued with a plenary session featuring four keynote speakers, namely Prof. Benjamin McLellan (Kyoto University), Prof. Suharman Hamzah (UNHAS), Prof. Masaki Takaoka (Kyoto University), and Asst. Prof. Julie de Reyes (Kyoto University). This was followed by parallel panel sessions divided into six groups: Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change and Disaster Resilience, Social, Economic, and Political Dimensions of Sustainability, Sustainable Built Environment, Energy and Environment, and Sustainable Tropical Forest. The event concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Yasuyuki Kono.
The active participation of FIKP UNHAS in this international forum further strengthens UNHAS’ contribution to global research efforts on sustainability, environmental challenges, and human security.
