UNHAS Participates in The 9th SUSTAIN International Conference at Kyoto University, Japan

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) proudly took part in The 9th SUSTAIN (Sustainable Future for Human Security) International Conference, held on 18 November 2025 at Kyoto University, Japan. This prestigious annual event brought together global experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss advancing knowledge and solutions in the field of human security and sustainability.

A delegation of approximately 30 participants from UNHAS, consisting of academic staff, researchers, and student presenters, actively contributed to the conference sessions. Their participation reflects UNHAS’ growing international presence and commitment to promoting research excellence on the global stage.

One of the main highlights of this year’s conference was the inclusion of Prof. Suharman Hamzah, a distinguished expert from UNHAS, as one of the key distinguished speakers. Prof. Suharman, widely recognized for his expertise in sustainable and resilient infrastructure, delivered an insightful plenary talk titled: “Incorporating Infrastructure Asset Management with Human Security Engineering for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure.”

In his presentation, Prof. Suharman elaborated on the strategic integration of infrastructure asset management with human security engineering—a multidisciplinary approach that emphasizes human well-being, safety, and long-term sustainability. He highlighted the importance of designing and managing infrastructure systems that are not only technically robust but also socio-environmentally resilient in the face of increasing global challenges. His session received strong interest from participants, fostering discussions on innovative policy frameworks, engineering approaches, and collaborative research opportunities.

The active participation of the Unhas delegation in SUSTAIN 2025 strengthens the university’s role in international academic collaboration and demonstrates its continued commitment to contributing solutions for a sustainable and secure global future.
