MPA UNHAS Strengthens Academic Collaboration Through International Colloquium on Policy and Governance at USM Penang
The Master of Public Administration (MPA) Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), organized the International Colloquium on Policy and Governance at the School of Social Science, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang on 24 November 2025. The academic forum was warmly welcomed by Dr. Ajrun Khalid, Coordinator of the Master of Public Administration (MPA), School of Social Science USM, accompanied by Prof. Kamaruzzaman bin Askandar, Dr. Muhammad Febriansyah, and MPA students from USM.

The event began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Ajrun Khalid, who expressed his appreciation to the MPA UNHAS delegation for the ongoing academic collaboration between the two institutions. The program then proceeded with the International Colloquium on Policy and Governance featuring research presentations by MAP UNHAS students. In this session, Maryam N. Aziza Latief and M. Akbar Hasyim presented their research titled “Evaluating PT Vale Indonesia’s CSR Initiatives in Strengthening MSME Development in East Luwu Regency.” This was followed by a presentation by Buli and Andi Mujahid M.Q on the topic “Analyzing Public Value in the Implementation of the Legislative Functions of the Mamasa Regency Parliament.”
Following the student presentations, the academic session continued with a lecture delivered by Nuralamsyah Ismail, S.Sos., MA, a lecturer in Public Administration at FISIP UNHAS, who presented “Environmental Governance in Maritime Area: An Empirical Analysis on Community-Based Tourism Organization in Indonesia.” The entire series of activities proceeded interactively through a discussion session involving USM MPA students and the faculty members of the School of Social Science, highlighting contemporary public policy challenges in Indonesia and Malaysia as well as potential future collaborative research.

The MPA UNHAS delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Gita Susanti, M.Si, Head of the Master of Public Administration Program, accompanied by faculty members: Prof. Dr. Badu Ahmad, M.Si, Dr. Amri Hans, M.Si, Drs. Lutfi Atmansyah, MA, Andi Ahmad Yani, M.Si, MPA, M.Sc, Irma Arianti Arif, M.Si, and Nuralamsyah Ismail, MA.
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Gita Susanti, M.Si emphasized that this activity is part of MPA UNHAS’ commitment as a FIBAA internationally accredited study program to strengthen internationalization and advance academic quality. She stated that such collaboration represents a concrete implementation of practice-based learning and global research engagement. She further explained that this agenda is part of the learning process for the Comparative Public Administration course, designed to broaden students’ perspectives on public policy practices and governance across countries.
The program concluded with the presentation of future collaboration plans between UNHAS and USM, including the organization of joint international conferences and the initiation of collaborative research projects. This academic forum serves as a strategic step for MPA UNHAS in expanding international networks, building a global reputation, and enhancing academic contributions in the field of public policy and society.
