UNHAS Boosts Internationalization Strategy at Education Fair in Thailand

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) has once again demonstrated a strong commitment to expand their international network by participating in the Education Fair organized by the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) in Songkhla, Thailand. The event took place on 13–14 November 2025 at Thaksin University and was attended by more than 30 universities from across Indonesia. It was officially opened by Mr. Mochammad Rizki Safary, Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla, together with Dr. Khwanchit Suwannoppharat, Director of International Affairs at Thaksin University. The presence of numerous Indonesian higher education institutions reflects a strong commitment to educational diplomacy and efforts to strengthen academic collaboration between Indonesia and Thailand.

UNHAS’ involvement in international activities such as the KRI Songkhla Education Fair aligns with its vision of becoming a world-class university, emphasizing global collaboration, internationalization of education, and increased student diversity. This participation serves as a strategic opportunity to strengthen international promotion, build academic partnerships, and expand mobility opportunities for students and academic staff. Over the past two years, UNHAS has recorded significant growth in the number of international students, demonstrating the success of its internationalization strategy. The university recorded 46 international students in 2023, 185 students in 2024, and 161 students in the early semester of 2025.

The Director of Education at UNHAS, Prof. Risma Illa Maulany, Ph.D., expressed her appreciation for the organization of the Education Fair. She emphasized that the activity provides an important platform for UNHAS to introduce its academic programs, facilities, and educational opportunities to prospective international students. She noted the high level of enthusiasm from participants, which serves as a valuable asset in strengthening UNHAS’ global positioning, and affirmed that participation in such events will continue to be encouraged as part of the university’s commitment to achieving world-class university status.

Through their participation in the Education Fair in Thailand, UNHAS hopes to broaden its international outreach and attract more international applicants, particularly from Southeast Asia. The event also provided an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Indonesian and Thai higher education institutions and support UNHAS’ active role in advancing educational diplomacy.
