Faculty of Medicine UNHAS Renews Collaboration with Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands
The Faculty of Medicine (FK), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS, has officially renewed its partnership with Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), The Netherlands on 6 October 2025, continuing a collaboration that has been in place since 2016. This signing marks the third phase of cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of medical education and research.
The partnership between FK UNHAS and LUMC encompasses various activities, including undergraduate student exchange programs and visiting lectures. In this new phase, the collaboration will be expanded to include joint research initiatives and outbound student programs to LUMC. Since the beginning of this partnership, LUMC has regularly sent 8–10 students each year to FKUH to participate in research programs at the Department of Parasitology, focusing on studies of helminths (parasitic worms). This research project is part of LUMC’s Half Minor curriculum.

The signing ceremony took place at the Gastro Center of Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital and was officiated by Prof. Dr.dr. Haerani Rasyid, M.Kes., Sp.GK(K), Sp.PD-KGH, FINASIM, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNHAS, and Prof. Dr. Alexandra Langers, Vice Dean of Education, LUMC. Also in attendance were LUMC representatives Prof. Dr. Marc Bruijnzeels, Guido de Wilde, and Afwan Afwandi.
In addition to the signing, Prof. Alexandra Langers, a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, engaged in scientific discussions and joint research planning with the team from the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterohepatology (GEH), and reviewed several clinical cases at the department.
Prof. Dr. dr. Rina Masadah, Sp.PA(K), M.Phil, DFM, Vice Dean for Publication, Community Service, and International Affairs, stated, “The renewal of this MoU brings a positive impact by strengthening the international recognition and reputation of FK UNHAS.”
