UNHAS and the Government of Timor-Leste Strengthen Collaboration Through the LEADS Program
Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) continues to strengthen international collaboration through its LEADS Scholarship Program, which this year has partnered with the Government of Timor-Leste. The partnership enables Timor-Leste to send its academics to pursue higher education at UNHAS across all levels—undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate (Master), and doctoral (Ph.D.) programs. This initiative reflects UNHAS’s commitment to supporting capacity building and human resource development in neighboring countries.
In 2024, UNHAS officially welcomed six international students from Timor-Leste under this collaboration. These awardees were granted full tuition fee exemptions, allowing them to focus on their academic pursuits without financial burden. The arrival of these students further enriches the multicultural academic environment on campus and strengthens educational cooperation between Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
The LEADS Program at UNHAS is designed to nurture leadership, academic excellence, and international collaboration among outstanding students from developing countries. Through this scholarship, UNHAS provides not only financial assistance but also academic mentoring, research opportunities, and access to high-quality educational facilities, ensuring that students gain both knowledge and global competence during their studies.
This partnership is expected to continue in the coming years as part of a long-term effort to advance human resource development between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. UNHAS remains committed to supporting this vision through various higher education initiatives aligned with its tridharma perguruan tinggi—education, research, and community service—thereby contributing to regional growth and the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.
