Kamishibai and the Japanese War: Insights from International Scholars at Hasanuddin University
The Japanese Literature Department of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) successfully held an online public lecture titled “The Japanese War and Kamishibai” on Thursday, 4 September 2025. The event drew enthusiastic participation, with over 170 attendees joining the session virtually.
The lecture featured three distinguished guest speakers from Japan, who are currently collaborating in research with the Head of the Department, Fithyani Sensei. Their collaborative research explores the role of Kamishibai in Japan and other countries such as Indonesia and Taiwan during the occupation period.
An engaging Q&A session followed the presentations, sparking numerous thoughtful questions from participants. Although time constraints prevented all inquiries from being addressed, the discussion highlighted students’ curiosity and enthusiasm. It is expected that the similar events will continue to broaden students’ understanding of Japanese studies and strengthen academic collaboration.
