Hasanuddin University Holds Orientation for 138 New International Students from 22 Countries
Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), through its International Office (IO), organized the International Student Orientation (ISO) for newly admitted international students of the 2025 intake. The opening session took place at the LPPM Auditorium of Unhas on Thursday, 4 September 2025. The orientation was mandatory for all new international students as it provided essential information related to Hasanuddin University’s academic regulations as well as immigration requirements of the Republic of Indonesia.
For the academic year 2025/2026, Unhas has admitted a total of 138 international students from 22 different countries. At the opening session, 48 students were in attendance, while the remaining students were still in the process of obtaining visas and completing travel administration. Representing the Rector of UNHAS, the University Secretary, Prof. Ir. Sumbangan Baja, M.Phil., Ph.D., in his remarks emphasized that the growing number of international students reflects global recognition of Unhas’ reputation. He expressed his hope that students will be able to adapt well while at the same time learning about Indonesia’s cultural diversity, particularly the culture of Makassar.
The new international students are distributed across a wide range of academic fields, from science and technology, health, social humanities, to agriculture. Among the study programs chosen are Architecture, Nursing, Medicine, Information Systems, Management, Agriculture, Fisheries, and Cultural Sciences. This distribution demonstrates that Hasanuddin University is increasingly trusted as a multidisciplinary study destination, not only in health-related programs but also in engineering, economics, and the social sciences.
The orientation featured several presentations. The Head of IO, Dr. A. Masyitha Irwan, delivered a session on support services provided by the International Office. The Secretary of IO, Muhammad Ridwan, explained about health insurance. Prof. Risma Illa Maulany, Director of Academic Affairs, discussed academic regulations, scholarship schemes, and the integrity pact. Dr. Abdullah Sanusi, Director of Student Affairs, presented on student unions and student affairs regulations. Meanwhile, Dr. Saaduddin, a member of the International Office Task Force, spoke on immigration regulations and ITAS extension procedures.
The new international students of UNHAS in 2025 come from 22 countries. At the undergraduate level, they represent nations such as Timor Leste, Pakistan, China, Nigeria, Yemen, India, Madagascar, and Swaziland. At the master’s level, students hail from Timor Leste, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Libya, Palestine, and Germany. At the doctoral level, international students include those from Timor Leste, China, Pakistan, Nigeria, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon. In addition, non-degree students come from China and the Netherlands. Through the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (KNB) for Indonesian Language (BIPA), students also arrived from Bangladesh, Liberia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Pakistan, and Nigeria.
This program is expected to serve as an initial step for international students to become more familiar with the academic environment and culture of Hasanuddin University while also expanding their international networks. Hasanuddin University is committed to supporting these students to adapt, excel, and contribute to strengthening the image of Unhas as a world-class university.
