The Faculty of Dentistry at Hasanuddin University (FKG UNHAS) conducted a visit to three prominent Malaysian universities; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, MAHSA University, and University Malaya—from January 22 to 23, 2025. The visit aimed to study Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) focusing on resource planning, material storage, student flow, and centralized management of supplies and equipment repair. This initiative sought to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of laboratory operations at FKG UNHAS.
The delegation included Dr. Juni Jekti Nugroho, drg., Sp.KG., Subsp., KE(K), (Vice Dean for Planning and Resources); Erni Marlina, drg., Ph.D., Sp.PM.Subsp., Inf(K), (Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Alumni); Rika Damayanti Syarif, drg., M.Kes, (Coordinator of the Integrated Laboratory); Afniati Rachmuddin, drg., Sp.KG., (Head of the Preparation Laboratory); and Haryati, SE., MT., (Head of Planning and Resources.) Each member contributed their expertise to comprehensively evaluate the laboratory management systems at the visited universities.
The three universities showcased unique and systematic approaches to laboratory management. They demonstrated meticulous arrangements for tracking student usage of instruments, controlling material distribution, and maintaining centralized systems for supplies and repairs. These processes not only enhance resource utilization but also streamline workflows, ensuring greater operational efficiency in the laboratories.
Returning with a wealth of knowledge, the FKG UNHAS team has gained valuable insights on implementing a centralized management system in their laboratories. This initiative is expected to improve resource allocation, optimize student workflows, and elevate the overall quality of laboratory management at UNHAS.
