The Asia Pacific Sociological Association, or APSA, provides a platform for academics, professionals, and others to exchange ideas and perspectives in the field of sociology, attended by sociology experts from various Asia-Pacific countries. This forum also included a signing ceremony for a collaboration agreement between Hasanuddin University and the Asia Pacific Sociological Association (APSA). The collaboration was formally signed by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., and Dr. Emma Porio, APSA President.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Sawedi Muhammad, M.Sc. as Chairman of the APSA Conference 2024, and H. Abdul Razaq Z. Cangara, S.IP., M.Si., M.IR, as Vice Chairman, who shared his impressions of the event during an interview. “As Vice Chairman of the APSA Conference 2024, I see this conference as a forum for exchanging ideas between academics and practitioners in the field of sociology, especially those focused on environmental sociology. With the theme ‘Global Resilience: Thriving Amidst Planetary Challenges for a Sustainable Future,’ participants explored environmental issues that are pressing global concerns and sought alternative solutions to the environmental challenges faced by communities today. Thus, the APSA Conference 2024 is not merely an academic conference and intellectual exercise, but also a conference that adopts a multi-stakeholder approach to provide solutions to global environmental issues, grounded in academia yet policy-oriented and action-driven,” he said.

Through this collaboration and discussion, both parties call on all parties, including government bodies, academics, especially students, to unite in the movement for greater awareness of social and environmental issues occurring both within the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
