The International Office (IO) at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) recently hosted the International Students Orientation (ISO) on Thursday, October 24, 2024, starting at 1:00 p.m. Makassar time. Held in Meeting Room A on the 4th floor of the Rectorate Building, the ISO welcomed 15 new international students from various scholarship schemes, including the Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) or Partnership of Developing Countries Award, the LEAD Scholarship, and the Presidential Scholarship.
The session opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Sumbangan Baja, Ph.D., (UNHAS Secretary), who was accompanied by Dr. Andi Masyitha Irwan, Head of the IO, along with IO Secretary, task forces, and staff members. The orientation’s agenda included comprehensive presentations designed to introduce new international students to key aspects of university life and policies. Dr. Andi Masyitha Irwan kicked off the presentations with an overview of Hasanuddin University, followed by a session on academic regulations led by Risma Illa Maulany, Ph.D., (Director of Education).
To address practical aspects of staying in Indonesia, representatives from the Makassar Immigration Office explained visa and immigration rules. The Director of Student Affairs, represented by Muh. Irdham Ferdiansyah, Ph.D., Head of the Sub-Directorate of Student Affairs, then covered the university’s Student Code of Conduct, ensuring students are well-informed about behavioral expectations. The orientation concluded with a session on Cross-Cultural Understanding, led by Muhammad Ridwan, M.A., IO Secretary. This session aimed to ease the students’ transition to UNHAS and help prevent any potential immigration issues, equipping them with essential knowledge for a smooth start to their studies in Indonesia.
