The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) held a Virtual International Symposium Series #13 with the theme: “Big Data and Oral Disease Prevention”. The activity was part of the 39th Anniversary of the faculty. The symposium was conducted virtually using the Zoom meeting application on Tuesday (21/12).
This symposium presented Professor Li-Sheng Chen, Ph.D., (Vice Dean of Education and Global Affairs College of Oral Medicine Taipei Medical University) as a speaker with material on “Who-guided Oral Health System and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)”.
Prof. Li-Sheng presented his expertise in dental science, which is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal #3, ensuring a healthy life and supporting welfare for all ages. Dentists’ professionalism plays an essential role in preventing dental and oral diseases, which can help achieve the SDGs.
Dentists provide dental and oral health improvement through service information systems or counselling by conducting regular screening and providing dental and oral care to prevent damage.
“Giving education about the importance of oral health to all people is essential, especially long-term and special oral health care for mothers, children, adults, and the elderly,” said Prof. Li-Sheng.
Furthermore, Prof. Li-Sheng explained that maintaining oral health can affect several habits, from food and drink consumption to the dangers of smoking, which has a high enough risk that it can cause infections in the gums and changes in the appearance of teeth.
Therefore, each age group requires different treatments and care, so it is essential to have regular dental treatment and have an essential impact on the life quality of all individuals.
The event was guided by drg. Andi Sitti Hajrah Yusuf, M.S., and was attended by approximately 100 participants.
