The Faculty of Nursing (FKep) of Hasanuddin University held a guest lecture on the topic “Global Perspective on Maternity Care” which invited guest lecturer Dr Louise Walker (Associate Professor Midwifery Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences University of Nottingham).
The activity took place at 09.00 WITA offline limited in the Hall of Prof. Fachruddin, Graduate School, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, Thursday (09/06).
The activity was officially opened by the Deputy Dean for Academics, Research and Innovation, Syahrul Said, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., PhD. In his remarks, he welcomed the resource persons who were willing to attend in person to provide knowledge and share their experiences in the field of Midwifery Clinical Practice.
“This is a very valuable opportunity for them to gain new insights and educational information in seeing the development of the health world abroad,” said Syahrul.
In his presentation, Dr. Louise Walker explains the regulation of professional standards of education, training and the behaviour and performance of the midwifery profession.
Dr. Louise said that globally, quality midwifery education is urgently needed in reducing maternal and child mortality rates during childbirth, as well as provide postnatal care.
“Midwifery education standards have a direct relationship with the quality of midwifery care. Midwives who are educated according to competency standards can improve overall health care services to save the lives of mothers and babies in the birth process,” explained Dr. Louise.
Furthermore, Dr. Louise explained that midwifery professionalism is strengthened in clinical practice, education and research in improving collaborative health systems, to provide health services for mothers and babies.
After the presentation of the material, the activity was then continued with a discussion and question and answer session which was attended by approximately 100 participants from lecturers and students of the Unhas FKep. The activity went smoothly and was guided by Framita Rahman, S.Kep., Ns., MSc., (Lecturer of FKep Unhas) as moderator. (*/dhs).
