Working while sitting staring at a computer or laptop screen is a common thing in today’s world. Even these activities can be carried out for hours, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic with the Work From Home policy, almost all work activities take place online and increase the time to sit in front of the software screen. As a result, blood circulation will be hampered, balance and body coordination are also easily disturbed after doing activities for a long time. The body, especially its supporting structures such as muscles and joints that work unbalanced, will be the most affected part due to the increased activity that is static. It can also be exacerbated by the wrong posture at work. Pain and aches and discomfort, especially in the neck and lower back will be symptoms of this phenomenon. In the end, work performance will be affected by the work activity load which tends to last a long time in one position.
Stretching or stretching that is done properly is considered capable of maintaining muscle flexibility and optimizing blood circulation in the human body. Therefore, the Physiotherapy Study Program of FKep Unhas realizes that it is important to apply stretching exercises between daily work activities. Through community service activities which are also a series of 3rd Anniversary activities of the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Nursing, the Physiotherapy Study Program held a Physiotherapy Lifting Technique on Sitting Position Extension program during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The activity which took place right on the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day this year was carried out online and was attended by the Unhas Academic Community and the general public. This activity includes video screenings related to correct stretching techniques, a brief explanation of the optimal stretching techniques to do while working, and also a discussion session. The stretching exercises shown are fairly simple and don’t take a lot of time, making them ideal for between jobs. It is hoped that after participating in this activity, the participants will be able to understand and apply the correct stretching movements in the midst of a tight work duration to help improve their performance and quality of life.
