As a student, it is appropriate to be involved in various community service programs, one of which is the Village Development Program (PBD) which is also involved in Student Activity Units (UKM), Student Executive Board (BEM), or Similar Student Organization Organizations (IOMS) in an effort to empower the community as a whole general. This activity is a tangible form of community service as a tri dharma of higher education.
For the first time the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University held a PBD in Paccerakkang Village, Biringkanaya District, Makassar City on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 08.00-15.30. A total of 8 lecturers and 20 students of BEM management and the Nursing and Physiotherapy Association of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University took part in this activity which has targets ranging from children, adults to the elderly (elderly). PBD activities were welcomed by local residents and also attended by Paccerakkang Village Chief, Paccerakkang Health Center, community leaders, deputy dean of student affairs, alumni, and partnerships namely Syahrul, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D and PBD team from the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University.
PBD has several programs, namely (1) Counseling about hypertension, stroke, and diabetes mellitus in adults and the elderly. This activity is coupled with a health examination in the form of measurements of body weight, height, nutritional status, examination of blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol (2) Counseling for Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS) in schools, (3) Counseling about posture disorders coupled with direct examination or early detection of defects in schools; and (4) Training in waste recycling using decoupage techniques for housewives.
Message from the Head of Paccerakkang Health Center, drg. Hj. Rafiah said that he hoped that PBD could also be implemented in other villages such as Katimbang Village, so that many programs like this were felt by the community because this positive activity had a positive impact on the people who followed it.
PBD gives people the opportunity to check and control blood pressure, gout, and cholesterol so that preventing and treating diseases can be done early. In addition, PBD was also held at Paccerakkang Inpres Elementary School, the UKS felt very helped by the presence of the PBD team who provided education to students about clean and healthy living behaviors, one of which was through hand washing with soap (CTPS), how to brush teeth correctly, and education and examination of posture disorders.
“Our hope, this village development program continues to establish good cooperative relations, especially with the Paccerakkang Village, Paccerakkang Health Center and Paccerakkang Inpres Elementary School so that the perceived benefits can be maximized and can always synergize in the future,” said Arnis Puspitha as the head of the committee’s development program the village of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University.
