Nursing Expert Lecture by Professor Marianne Baernholdt, Ph.D., M.P.H., RN, FAAN
The Nursing Science Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (PSIK FK Unhas) holds a Nursing Expert Lecture entitled “Issues In Quality Of Care In The US: Comparisons Of Urban And Rural Health Care” on Tuesday March 14 2017, 13.00-16.00, located in Baruga A. Amiruddin FK Unhas. This expert lecture was delivered by Professor Marianne Baernholdt, Ph.D., M.P.H., RN, FAAN. He is a Professor at the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Director at the Langston Center for Quality, Safety, and Innovation, VCU, United States.
The purpose of this nursing expert lecture is to provide knowledge and description of the quality control of nursing services in urban and rural United States based on research conducted by Prof. Baernholdt. This expert lecture was attended by 404 participants consisting of PSIK and PSMIK lecturers and students, as well as nurses including the Head of Nursing, Head of Room, and Infection Control Nurse (PPI) who worked at Unhas Hospital and Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital.
In his expert lecture, Prof. Baernholdt explained some of the results of his research which focused on differences in the quality of nursing services in urban and rural hospitals in the United States. He also stressed that in the United States, the Head of the Nursing Division plays an important role in controlling the quality of nursing services in hospitals. In addition, Prof. Baernholdt also explained that in the United States, one of the important efforts that nurses can take to control the quality of nursing services in hospitals is to report hospital acquired conditions (HACs) to the nursing quality indicator data center, known as The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI®).
