Webometrics, one of the instruments utilized to rank higher education institutions (web-based) developed by Cybermatrics Lab in Madrid, Spain, recently announced the newly issued university ranks of the world, including Indonesia. Since 2004, Webometrics have released the rankings at every end of January and July each year.

The rankings made Unhas the very best higher education institution in Eastern Indonesia and considered one of the best in Indonesia.
Webometrics is compiled based on four essential variables, including Presence Rank, Openness Rank, and Excellence Rank. For the category of Excellence Rank, Unhas is positioned in a relatively high figure that is the 6th position in Indonesia, over passing Universitas Padjajaran (7), Universitas Brawijaya (10), Universitas Airlangga (14), and Institut Teknologi Surabaya (17).
“The Webometrics rankings are based on reality processes. The indicators used by Webometrics have throughout the years been of stricter. For example, the indicators for Excellence Rank assembled based on the amount of articles created by the lecturers, which are also of Scopus, Scimago, and Google Scholar indexed. So this is no joke,” explained the Unhas Rector, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, M.A. commenting on the achievements, Saturday (13/8).
The Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Higher Education refers to the Webometrics system as a measurement of management and academics of higher education institutions based on IT. Therefore for the Unhas Rector, Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu invested specific attention towards rising in the ranks, by establishing a ranking acceleration team. The results were, by the end of January 2016, Unhas ranks improved to the 12th position nationally, and further showed progress being in the 11th position in the July 2016 edition.
Though proud of the achievements, Unhas Rector admitted how she is not fully satisfied. Especially considering the potential of Unhas now.
“We will keep pushing our academic performances and research based on IT to achieve a level that is far superior. As of now, we are positioned in the 59th of overall Southeast Asia. Our target is to be the second ranked,” Dwia enthusiastically hoped.
