Hasanuddin University hosted the "The 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM) on Science, Technology and Higher Education Cooperation" and "The 11th Joint Workshop Group (JWG) on Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship" at Hasanuddin University. The activity which is a forum for higher education cooperation between Indonesia and France initiated by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti).
The opening ceremony of The 2nd HLM and The 11th JWG took place at Baruga Baharuddin Lopa Hall, Faculty of Law, Universitas Hasanuddin. The event was attended by the Minister of Research and Technology, Prof. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Ph.D., The Ambassador of France to Indonesia, H.E. Olivier Chambard, and The Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA.
In her opening remarks, The Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA, warmly welcomed the delegations from Indonesia and France in Universitas Hasanuddin. More than 140 delegations from various Universities in Indonesia and 42 delegations from France participated in the event.
“This is an important and valuable moment for us. We greet and warmly welcome the delegates, wherein the next two days we will intensively discuss various matters related to higher education in each country, and look for collaboration space between the two countries, "said Prof. Dwia.
Meanwhile, The French Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Olivier Chambard, expressed his appreciation and respect to Universitas Hasanuddin and the Government of South Sulawesi for the welcoming ceremony. He hoped the forum can further intensify the collaboration between two countries that have been established for a long time. Ambassador Chambard also congratulated Prof. Bambang P. Soemantri Brodjonegoro for his appointment as a new Minister of Research and Technology.
"Last night we were welcomed with a very memorable dinner by the Governor of South Sulawesi by serving food and dances. We also received a very warm welcome from Universitas Hasanuddin. I have just been appointed a month as Ambassador, and my visit to Makassar was my first trip out of Jakarta," Said Ambassador Chambard, who was applauded by hundreds of attendees.
Ambassador Chambard also announced his commitment to increasing collaboration with Indonesia, especially in the field of High Education, Research, and Technology.
The Minister of Research and Technology / Head of BRIN conveyed in his speech that there were high hopes for cooperation between Indonesia and France involving universities. He believed many things can be developed jointly by the two countries, through the process of sharing knowledge.
"We might know France with Paris as the center of world fashion. Though not only that, France is also the Headquarters and the main factory of Airbus aircraft located in the City of Toulouse. This is a plane with advanced and cutting edge technology. It means that we can learn a lot from France in terms of technological progress. On the other hand, Indonesia is a rich country for its biodiversity, which also provides a wide scope for research. This is where we can share, "said Minister Bambang Soemantri.
The official opening of JWG and HLM was marked by the beating of a drum typical of South Sulawesi by the Minister of Research and Technology / BRIN, the French Ambassador, and the Chancellor of Hasanuddin University.
JWG and HLM are annual events. This activity aims to discuss the implementation, evaluation of achievements, and monitoring of developments, and the initiation of collaborative activities in the fields of science, technology and higher education between Indonesia and France. JWG and HLM activities this year were attended by around 250 participants from Indonesia and France, which consisted of academics, researchers, and policymakers in various fields that were the focus of Indonesia - France within the framework of scientific knowledge, technology, and higher education.
After the opening ceremony, a plenary session was held which was filled with several main lectures from resource persons, including Nada Darmiyanti (Research and Technology / BRIN), Thierry Mare (Institut Francais Indonesiad'Indonesie /- France Embassy).
In the afternoon, several agendas will take place, including the Workshop and High-Level Meeting which takes place at the Faculty of Engineering Campus, Gowa. The opening ceremony ended at 10.30 WITA. (*)
